Custom Winterboard Theme – Part 2 – Custom Sounds

*You’ll need a jailbroken iphone with OpenSSH installed and enabled*

In this tutorial I’ll explain how to add a custom SMS tone to your Custom Winterboard (or any theme you’re currently using) so that there’s no need to “over write or rename” the STOCK SMS TEXT MESSAGE tone.

If you’re interest in how to CREATE a custom SMS tone please read the guide here.

In the first part I taught you how to create a theme so SSH back into your themes folder.

If you forgot the path is;

/private/var/stash/Themes.XXXXXX
(note the X’s are different for each device)

If you need help on how to SSH into the iPhone refer back to our how to guide.

Once in the Themes.XXXXXXX folder go to the theme you’re currently using, or your custom .Theme folder.

Create a new folder/directory called “UISounds” please be aware of the capitals, one mistake and this WILL NOT WORK.

ALSO!  Naming convention of your custom SMS tone files are very important.

Copy your custom SMS Tones into this folder, and make sure the name convention is as follows;

sms-received1.caf to sms-received6.caf

To change between them go to the settings on the iPhone.

*NOTE* “Tri-Tone” and the other 5 tone names are built into the User Interface and there has been no way as of yet to change this.

Besides SMS sounds other sounds are FULLY customizable.

To use a custom Lock sound follow the how to create a SMS Tone guide except for renaming the file sms-received1.caf use lock.caf

Use the same method for an unlock sound with the name unlock.caf

Copy all your custom sound files into that UISounds folder in your .THEME folder and you should be all good!

A Guide to customizable sounds will be posted up!

As well as a simplified “HOW TO MAKE A .CAF FILE” Guide.
