Changing New Text Message Sound Name
Tools youll need:
OpenSSH (Cydia)
Erica Utilities (Cydia, needed for xml command)
SSH utility (Win_SCP, used)
SSH into your iPhone. Instructions on How To SSH are here.
Navigate to /Applications/Preferences.app/English.lproj/
If you’re using a different language obviously choose the language you’re using…
Once in this directory the file we need to edit is called Sounds.strings
Before it can be edited it needs to be converted to XML.
Run the command plutil -c xml1 Sounds.strings
Now right click, or edit the Sounds.strings file.
The output should look like this:
It looks weird but the New Text Sound starts at “Default” where you see “Tri-Tone” in the above.
Then the second sound “Chime” starts at ALTERNATE_1 and so on upto ALTERNATE_5
Remember do not change any keys: EXAMPLE_1 only the strings Tri-Tone
A good practice is to make a back up of any files you edit so that if you mess up it can be fixed without having to restore your phone.
Well thats all the end result after you respring or reboot should look like this:
