Tired of paying for music through iTunes just to right click your newly purchased song and selecting create ringtone?
Well STOP PAYING!
Here’s a way to create custom ringtones from music in your iTunes library for absolutely free!!!
Tools needed:
iTunes (worked on 7 still works on 8.)
Open up iTunes and once in your library right click the song you wish to make into your ringtone. Select “Get Info”
When the songs’ properties opens up, click the options tab.
Now you should see a place to edit the Start and Stop time of the songs.
This is REALLY important. The SONG NEEDS to be 30 SECONDS long.
Choose any 30 seconds of the song you want, edit the Start and End times and click ok.
Once at your library right click and choose Create AAC version, this will create a duplicate of the same song, but the 30 second version.
Once the 30 second clip is done converting go back into “Get Info” and “options” and uncheck the start and stop times so that your song goes back to normal.
If you dont do that last step your song will always play that 30 seconds until you uncheck those boxes!
Now back at the library right click the song and select “Show in Windows Explorer” (For mac users do the equivilant, the clip is located in the same spot as the original)
This step is for windows users only, click Tools on the folder that opened with your song in it. Select Folder Options, then view. Now uncheck “Hide known file extensions.” Click ok.
Now you will see your file as FILENAME 1.M4A.
For both Windows and Mac users rightclick the file (the 30 second clip has the 1 at the end of the file name since its a duplicate)
and change the .m4a to .m4r
Once this is done the icon of the file will change to an icon that looks like an iTunes file and says “ringtone” in it.
Double click this file and POW! goes straight into iTunes.
Connect your iPhone, then sync.
From the iPhone go into settings, sounds, ringtone, and youll now have a section that says “Custom” with the ringer you just made!
Sounds like a lot but its really a few clicks, and beats paying for ringtones.
